This module specifically explores the issues revolving around asbestos in the disaster scenario. This could include flooding, explosion, fire or indeed decontamination from a bio -terrorist incident or sanitation following a health concern such as epidemic, legionella, due to the need to strip out and sanitise areas. The module follows guidance notes issued by the HSE Health & Safety Executive and shows how to comply with legal obligations regarding asbestos in the work place. While asbestos legislation is very comprehensive and designed to protect the occupants of buildings, the disaster scene can result in previously unknown or more importantly what must by law be presumed to be asbestos containing materials being damaged or exposed. This may have far reaching consequences for the recovery time line and this module shows methods of reducing this delay.
